Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a simple, practical science of life with principles that are universally applicable to our lifestyles today. The ancient realized beings and seers of truth discovered through their spiritual practices, disciplines and devotion, the deep understanding of the Cosmic cycles and the truth of these rythmns. Through intensive inner development and meditation, they manifested truth in their daily lives. Ayurveda emerged as this science of daily living and is the system of knowledge which evolved from the illumination of these deeply realized practitioners. They preceived the close relationship between our lives and the universe, how cosmic energy manifests and realized the Source of all existence.

Ayurveda touches on lifestyle, diet, routine, and spirit. It contains an abundant reserve of knowledge to support the individual to live life fully and to the highest level of developement. It teaches us to return to the simplicity of living and to respect the laws of Nature. It is deep in understanding the flow of the seasonal and cosmic cycles and teachesus how through various Sadhanas (life-giving actions and disciplines) to respect the sacred in all of life. Each individual is unique in their constitutional make up and has particular needs depending what is going on with the body at any given time. The balance of our bodies changes depending on our routine, our diet, and the cycles of our lives. Ayurveda is a simple, practical science that addresses these aspects with principles that are universally applicable to our lifestyles today.

Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra

Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra are the ancient life-disciplines that have been practiced in India, Tibet and Nepal for centuries. Yoga is the science of union with the truth, Tantra is the most direct method of controlling the energy that creates the ultimate union or completion and Ayurveda is the science of Life. These three sciences are intimately interwoven. The purpose of each of these paths of practice is to help the individual to achieve longevity, rejuvenation and self-realization. Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra form and interdependent unity in life. Health of the body, mind and consciousness is dependent on the knowledge and practice of these three in daily life.

In the Ayurvedic tradition these specific body therapies are used to heal and bring balance.

    Shirodhara
Through the methodic dripping of warm oil infused with herbs and essential oils specific to the individuals constitution, the bodies inherent healing mechanism is awakened. As the oil pours over the brow point continuously for half and hour or more the Shakti Prana (creative life force) and the cellular memory is nourished. This treatment is specific for anyone experiencing headaches, stress, loss of hair or hearing, inflammation in the body, poor digestion, menopause, eating disorders, or following any trauma. During any time of change or uncertainty it is deeply soothing and grounding. This treatment is recommended during the junctures of the seasons to assist in the transition.

    Marma Point Therapy
Marmas, junctures of prana, are vital points where muscles, ligaments and tendons meet. Through specific massage techniques the marmas and circulatory channels are stimulated. Marma therapy, one of the most ancient techniques for relieving pain, acts directly on the blood, nerves and lymph circulatory systems. By stimulating these points, especially when performed with warm oil prepared for the individual constitution, it serves to cleanse and revitalize the body. This therapy is recommended for any condition or as periodic therapy to keep the tissues clear and vital.

    Abhyangam
Abhyangam is an Ayurveda way of oil massage with Marma therapy. Marma are vital points of the body which contain Prana energy. Gentle pressure on Marma while doing massage provides Prana energy to the body and mind which gives ultimate healing. In Abhyangam, special herb infused Ayurvedic oils are slowly warmed up and gently massaged in to the skin. This massage is deeply relaxing, harmonizes, detoxifies, strengthens and revitalizes the entire body. This massage also improves lymph flow and stimulates the immune system. It simultaneously calms and strengthens the nervous system. In this way Abhyangam massage is a protector, preserver and rejuvenator.

Ayurvedic Seasonal Jucture Retreats
$90-120 entire retreat, Friday night/Saturday afternoon

The Seasonal Juncture is a two week time period marking the transition from one season to the next. According to Ayurveda, the juncture between seasons is a time when we become more open and vulnerable while we are responding to the fluctuation of our natural environment. This is a powerful time of opportunity to release and clear that which is no longer beneficial and to allow what is healthful and creative to emerge as we open to the qualities that the next season brings. Refer to Events page to read further on our upcoming Seasonal Ayurvedic Retreats.
