Cary's Background in Meditation & Movement
Drawn to the spiritual path at an early age, Cary began practice, study and disciplined training in the teachings and lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda, Founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship. She had a dedicated practice of Meditation at age 16. She went on to receive initiation into Kriya Yoga teachings and practices of Paramahansa Yogananda and thus was her entry into the spiritual path. She continued her practice and study of Meditation and Yoga and took on further training with Swaminimayatitananda, Maya Tiwari while living in NYC. Throughout her years of Ayurvedic and Spiritual study, Cary received initiation and transmission into Advaita Vedanta, the Shivaite Tradition and the Hindu Shakta Tantric Path. Cary's practice of Meditation is deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhism. She also includes the practice of Tai Chi and Chi Gong as well.
Cary earned a BFA in Modern Dance and Choregraphy from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1991. After graduating she moved to New York City to continue her studies and to further explore movement. During this time she studied Ballet and Modern dance in New York and began to perform with local choreographers. She was a founding member of the Mark Jarecke Dance Company which created original works and explored movement through the Laban and Bartineff Fundamentals of Movement. The company went on to perform and teach internationally.
Upon arrival in New York, Cary began Pilates sessions twice weekly with third generation Pilates teacher Deborah Lesson, owner of New York's Green Street Studio. She continued her weekly sessions over the next ten years and then went on to teach. Cary continued her education in Anatomical and Rehabilitation training with Anatomist Irene Dowd. During this time Cary explored the vast world of dance, movement and movement therapy with the explorers, original teachers and therapists in New York.
Individual Meditation and Movement Sessions
$95 per hour, $145 per 90 min, $30 for 15 min check in
Meditation is included in our yoga classes at the studio as well as our workshops and retreats. You may have personal guidance in meditation with Cary or Lee if so desired. The meditation training introduced will be appropriate to the individuals needs, level and personal path.
Work with movement will be an integral part of your sessions with Cary and Lee in a variety of formats. You may also so individualized movement work and therapeutic healing movement work if so desired. If form is needed, we may use any of the following methods of Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi or Chi Gong. We may also use a more free, organic and exploratory approach to movement in our sessions, allowing the body to unwind, the unconscious to express and the body's own wisdom to lead the session.
