 Yoga
Yoga is the sister science of Ayurveda and they are most complete when practiced and studied in relationship to each other. Yoga is an ancient science of physical and spiritual practices to develop the body and the psycho-spiritual dimension of oneself. There are many different approaches to this ancient science of Self-Realization, and today in our modern culture you can find references to various styles of practice. Through the practice of Asana (physical postures and movements), Pranayama (structured practices of breathwork), Mudra (gestures made with the hands or body), Mantra (the chanting and repetition of Sacred Sound), Meditation (mind training) and Purification (cleansing practices to prepare the body for deeper states of awareness), one is able to engage in a process of physical, mental and spiritual growth and development. This is a science that grows with the evolution of our world and culture and is accessable to everyone. There are varying degrees in which one can engage in practice.
The style of yoga taught at Haymarket Studio is informed by Cary's lifetime of study and practice, with her husband Lee partnering in this yogic lifestyle. Their classes are rooted in Ayurveda's knowledge of the five elements and in the understanding that the way we approach our practice deeply influences our state of balance and our development. You will find their classes are a creative mix of traditional Hatha yoga, flow, and uniquely original expressions of movement. The classes have a strong anatomical base, are grounded in authentic traditional practice, and leave room for the newly creative to emerge for each individual.
Private Yoga Sessions
By Appointment
$80, 75 min
Each individual is unique in their constitutional and psychological make up and has particular needs depending on where that person is with the body or psyche at any given time. Our balance changes depending on the season, our routine, diet, and what is going on in our lives. This thought is in line with the Ayurvedic philosophy, an ancient healing system with roots in India. In a private yoga session the asana practice is designed to introduce a process to support balance physically as well as energetically and emotionally. The program will be designed for your unique needs. For centuries Yoga and Ayurveda have been used together for healing purposes. With Ayurveda in mind, you can learn how to approach your asana practice in a way that is best suited to bring balance to your body and mind. We will take a look at the correct anatomical alignment for each asana to maximize its benefits. Breath balancing, chanting or meditation may be incorporated into your personal program.

The focus of this class is to balance the five elements and five pranas in the body. The asanas are chosen, sequenced and executed in a specific way to balance the five elements in the body-earth, water, fire, air and either; thus balancing the doshas, vata, pitta and kapha. We do a thorough asana (yoga posture) practice as well as incorporating the beginning techniques for pranayama (breath balance & control) along with the use of sound to balance the breath and quiet the mind. In this class we also learn traditional Vedic chants and mantras. The use of healthy, good vibration and sound increases the vitality of the nerve channels and increases the flow of prana through them (prana is the source of our life force). Healthy tissue and organ activity is stimulated, increasing good health and harmonious thought. The asana in this class is suitable for beginners and advanced students of yoga. It is deeply relaxing; quieting the mind and preparing the body for more advanced asana practice.
